Corruption Everywhere! and where do we go? (Part 1)

Anna Hazare has made a historic protest with the support of people all over India, for a great cause – A bill to combat corruption. There were support flowing in from all sides, via Twitter, Facebook and all media. Are we sure enough if the protest is correct and if the cause is going to make a change forever in India?

Ok. Let us ask some questions to ourselves.

How many times have you stopped for a RED from the traffic signal?
How many times have you paid a bribe to a traffic inspector for not having license?
How many times have you got a bill for what you purchased (paying your part of sales-tax)?
How many times have you given way for an ambulance?
How many times have you questioned the bus conductor for not stopping in a stop?
How many times have you given way for a differently able person in their allocated seat in a bus?
How many times have you asked your taxi driver to switch on the meter?
How many times have you submitted original bills to claim your medical allowance?
How many times have you submitted original documents for your HRA allowances?
How many times have you paid and accounted it when you bought a piece of land or house?

This list would grow vast. This is like a list of questions that we often come to know, hear someone say, watch in most movies – but never act on. But we keep pointing hands to politicians and corrupt officials.
Truth is almost everyone is corrupt and the difference lies between who gets caught and who doesn’t. It’s not just A Raja or Kanimozhi who have lived against this country, but we. When you speak about the 1.75 Lakh Crore Rs. Scam in 2G, haven’t you ever thought that there is a much bigger scam of people showing faked documents for HRA and medical and have voided taxes. I am sure this would account to the scam of the same magnitude happening every year. What is much more evident is – everyone is trying their piece of luck from what corruption they could do with what they have. If a person working in a software company could show fake documents for taxes, why not the president or prime minister get his piece?

Our selfishness has always taken priority over the common interest of the country. We have created an environment where corruption seems to be right unless you get caught. It has so well hit our hearts that when we vote we don’t see the one who is going to be a good leader, instead we search for the one who is less corrupt. And the less is underlined. It’s not the welfare or economic reforms that are part of the election mandate nowadays but the freebies.
And this post is absolutely not aimed to change anything or advice anyone to change.

I just wonder if it is part of our DNA?

India Shining! – A Village on web 2.0

Can you imagine a village in the southern tip of Tamilnadu having a google group for them, a completely live up-to-date website for every single event in the village and to top it all a village that speaks cloud computing!

Yes! Here it is- Kasangadu. A village in Tanjore district near Pattukottai. They have a website called kasangadu.com. One that is created completely in tamil.

I was searching google groups for some groups which has interest towards trecking, biking etc., And I saw a group called – Kasangadu – http://groups.google.com/group/kasangaducom. I was curious what it could be. Then observed it is a group for sharing news and there is a whole website at the background. And startled to know – all these are for a small village near pattukottai.

This website have all that is to stay social and to share news.
These are some, but not limited to, list of interesting sections in this website:

1. News & Events : Any thing that happens in this village cannot go un-noticed, from Birth to death, from Public-gathering to Panchayats.
2. History : This has the complete history of the village
3. Matrimony : Has a web 2.0 site for matrimony within and around the village. [know-what this is powered by Sugar CRM]
4. Statistics : Everything from the population to average-salary in the village.
5. Market & Industry : They post all the great opportunities out there that would interest investors to start business. And also share information on all that is happening in the local market.
6. Google Map: To show you where this little [only by size] village is present on the globe.
7. Requests/Needs : This page gives info on what the village needs and how they can be achieved. This is a open forum. In one of these forums they were speaking about cloud computing.

They use many web 2.0 tools, like blooger.com/blogspot, google events, google groups, google maps, google sites, Sugar CRM.

Steps to reset MySQL password

I have a MySQL server and lost its password. I found that there is a way to reset the password once you lost it. Even the root’ password.

Following are the steps to do this.

1. Stop the mysqld daemon process.
2. Start the mysqld daemon process with the –skip-grant-tables option.
3. Start the mysql client with the -u root option.
4. Execute the UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD(‘password’) WHERE User=’root’;
5. Execute the FLUSH PRIVILEGES; command.

Laws of Attraction

Long time since I posted.
As the title of this post says – I am not gonna speak Newton here. But something which is more felt and little known.

Right now, NDTV is airing a program on Laws of Sexual Harassment with a name same as the title of this post, ‘Laws of Attraction’.

Agreed!!! Women are harassed more. But I want to post on something (I don’t really know what to name this “something”) which happens to men! Yes happens to men.

Have you ever seen any of your friend (particularly a guy) who came to you and said, “This fine day is end of my love. She said Bye!”. Yes, that he is dumped. Probably many friends happened to say this many times. (particularly in India).

Today happened to be another day like this when I came to hear a story of a guy who got dumped and how his life took a twist! I wonder is love that much complicated! or girls that much complicated to be loved.

The incident of girls dumping boys is really happening that too in raging numbers. And as everyone knows Male – is actually the weaker sex considering his sentiments towards his partner. Most girls who dump have many tricky points to say that she no more needs him. Family, Caste, Society, Status, Job and most importantly the Salary. Doesn’t she know that these KPIs (Key Performance Indicators – as we say in Business Intelligence:) ) does exist when she fell in love with him. Or at least before making him being mad on her.

Most guys turn to drugs, they need some way to forget. But the most pathetic ones are those that don’t even go for drugs. I have seen guys who have lost all their confidence, conscience and have been running behind psychiatrists for treatment. Some guys really never marry. In South India – the trade mark “beard” is the one – guys use to show that they have been dumped. Even some guys have attempted the last thread – killing themselves.

There are also guys who go the other way to go behind the girl or at the least behind the girls new boy friends or husbands, in search of justice. (Guys – This is real stupid to go for this option)

I don’t say that guys wont dump girls. They do! but not this many.

Dumping someone is cruel enough like Killing someone. Would there be some law on this land which addresses this? Would Burkha Dutta discuss this someday on NDTV?

I know girls are intelligent, Hope they would show their intelligence before falling in love. Or at least before dumping?

(this is a thought after watching many such things happening around me. I could say Goutham Menon’ Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya too influenced this.)

Congratulations to the mighty Rehman on winning the Oscars. Its been a dream for any Indian to see someone from India to hold the oscars one day. That has come true today. Rehman is the real Slumdog Millionarie! Jai Ho!

And I should have Congratulated Resul Pookutty (India) who won the oscar award for Best Sound Mixing.(Thanks Sangeetha to point me that I missed this) Anyways its here. Congrats Mr. Pookutty.

6. Having a girlfriend is hot, not having a girlfriend is automatically cool, and every one loves to be a cool guy.

7. This can be more to life than just waiting for the bloody phone to ring.

8. You won’t have to tolerate someone else defining, “right” and “wrong” for u.

9. Girlfriend can get so possessive that you can’t do anything according ur wishes anymore.

10. You can buy gifts for mom, dad, sis or grandpa instead of a girlfriend and have a happier family life.

11. You won’t have to waste paper writing love letters. No more endless waiting for ur date to arrive at some weird shop place.

My Girl

Now that I have seen almost 23 years of my life and most of it without anyone who I could in the true sense call as a friend…..I have been thinking now for a while as to how my spouse oughta be…………
# # # # I am not looking for only a beautiful, slim and an intelligent girl…….They are all cliché. The ones that matter are:
The first prerequisite I expect of my wife — no it isn’t the ability to understand me, that’s the second—- the first one’s a sense of humour for me and all my nonsense
She must sleep in my lap and allow me into hers. She must run her hand into my hair and fight me with pillows as often as she can.
She must allow me to disturb her, Which I will, —no matter how busy and serious she is and I am— , while she goes about our household chores.
She must sit with me shoulder in shoulder when we watch the late night movie together and must oblige to have a midnight walk anytime in the night.
When the curry isn’t nice and I stare into her eyes, she must straight away go and make an omlette for me.
When she is downright tired she must flirt with me to win a cup of tea or a glass of cold water. She must be ready to blow a kiss any time any day and any place. By the way I take kiss only on lips.
She should call me nicknames and how innovative she coins out new ones the better and must be prepared to confront some deadly ones in return. She can call me ‘Tu’ or anything as am not at all particular about those pronouns.
She got every right to beat me up when I annoy her while she watches those dready serials. She can also extract what she wants of me on women’s day. And I am also ready to share her pre-marital crushes and secrets.
On those rare occasions when we might fight and then go on a mourning spree, it can continue for the night. The next morning must again be normal.
I aint promising her a paradise but yes she will always get more of my love than our children.
And finally, she must have a higher life expectancy than me. I may not be able to live without her…..

Display tag uses the following three, for order,pagination and sorting
d-49653-o – this specifies the order 1=ascending and 2=descending
d-49653-p – this specifies the page no to load
d-49653-s – this specfies the column to be sorted.
These three flags are appended with the URL as parameters and the display tag uses them for pagination, sorting and ordering. The problem with this is the middle part that contains a unique number is autogenerated and therefore cannot be determined. Therefore you can use Pattern to do this. This is explained below.
